The project involves a 1.3km westward extension of the Tung Chung Line railway tunnel, and the construction of a new Tung Chung West Station.

Once finished, the project will enhance railway accessibility to the Tung Chung West and Tung Chung East regions, along with the planned developments at Lantau North and the expansion plans for the airport.
